ഷോര്‍ട്ട് സ്റ്റോറി പന്ത്രണ്ട്‌ മണിക്കൂര്‍ നീണ്ട ഡ്യൂട്ടി അവസാനിപ്പിച്ച്‌ ബാരക്കിലേക്ക്‌ മടങ്ങാന്‍ നേരം തെല്ലകലെയായി ഒരു മിന്നല്‍ പിണര്‍. ഉഗ്ര സ്ഫോടനത്തിനൊപ്പം ഉയര്‍ന്ന പൊടിപടലത്തിലൂടെ ഊളിയിട്ട്‌ ക്യാപ്റ്റന്‍ ഹരിഹരന്‍ കവചിത വാഹനത്തിലേയ്ക്ക്‌ കയറി. ഒരു ദിനചര്യയുടെ ഭാഗമെന്നോണം ഉയര്‍ന്ന ആ കോലാഹലങ്ങള്‍ അയാളില്‍ യാതൊരു പ്രതികരണവും ഉണ്ടാക്കിയില്ല. യുദ്ധം തകര്‍ത്ത ഹൈവേയിലൂടെ താമസ സ്ഥലം ലക്ഷ്യമാക്കി ആ വാഹനം നീങ്ങിയപ്പോള്‍ പരന്നു കിടക്കുന്ന പുരാതന ഭൂമിയിലേക്ക്‌ അയാള്‍ നിര്‍ന്നിമേഷനായി നോക്കിയിരുന്നു. മനുഷ്യന്റെ അടങ്ങാത്ത ദുരയുടെ മൃതപ്രായയായ ഇരായാണിന്ന്‌ യൂഫ്രട്ടീസിന്റെ നാട്‌. സമാധാനം പുനസ്ഥാപിക്കാന്‍ എത്തിയ സൈന്യം നീചമായ പീഢനത്തിനിരയാക്കിയ ജനതതിയുടെ രോദനം പുണ്യഭൂമിയില്‍ അങ്ങോളമിങ്ങോളം അലയടിക്കുന്നു. പല രാജ്യങ്ങിളില്‍ നിന്നു വന്ന ആ സേനാംഗങ്ങളില്‍ ഒരാളായതില്‍ എപ്പോഴുമെന്നപോലെ ഇപ്പോഴും അയാള്‍ സ്വയം ശപിച്ചു. മുറിയിലെത്തി ശീതീകരണിയുടെ തണുപ്പില്‍ രണ്ട്‌ പെഗ്ഗ്‌ വിസ്കി പകര്‍ന്ന്‌ ഫോണില്‍ നമ്പര്‍ ഡയല്‍ ചെയ്തപ്പോള്‍ മനസ്സില്‍ തെളിഞ്ഞത്‌ സര്‍പ്പക്കാവും നാഗവിഗ്രഹങ്ങളുമായിരുന്നു. മേശപ്പുറത്തു വച്ചിരിക്കുന്...
